The MenACWY immunisation protects against 4 strains of the meningococcal bacteria – A, C, W and Y – which cause meningitis and blood poisoning (septicaemia). It is usually given to students in school year 9 alongside their Diphtheria, Tetanus and Polio Teenage booster.

There is a catch-up programme for anyone aged 15 or older who has missed out on MenACWY immunisation. Young people are entitled to receive the immunisation any time up to their 25th birthday. Many higher education institutions will require students to have had this immunisation to attend university. We can offer the catch-up immunisation up to the age of 18, after this age please contact your GP.
